  • May 12, 2020

In light of COVID-19 and the current coronavirus pandemic across the globe we’ve decided to update our booking and cancellation policies in order to best serve our couples. These are difficult and stressful times for everyone and we want to ensure our couples feel confident booking us to photograph their special day, without worrying about what can happen should there be the need to reschedule or in the worst case cancel altogether.

The following policies are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic and take precedent over all other policies for all new weddings booked after May 1st, 2020.

  1. To book services with Jasmin & Matt for your wedding day you will need to sign our photography contract and pay a retainer fee of $200 USD.
  2. $200 USD retainer is non-refundable.
  3. Should you need to reschedule your wedding date we will do so at no additional cost and the $200 USD retainer would be credited towards your new date for up to 2 years.
  4. Should your rescheduled date conflict with an already booked wedding, the retainer is non-refundable.
  5. $200 USD retainer can be credited towards another type of session (Honeymoon, Anniversary etc) and is transferable for up to 2 years of your original wedding date.

For all previously booked weddings our booking, rescheduling and cancellation policies are as listed in your signed contract. We will reschedule your wedding at no additional cost and retainers are non-refundable.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us

Take care <3

Caye Caulker, Belize

  • March 25, 2020

January 2020 we packed our bags, hopped on a bus and then took a ferry from Chetumal, Mexico to the beautiful island of Caye Caulker, Belize to photograph our friends Alyson & John for their destination wedding.

The following is a blog post about that adventure.

We arrived at the San Pedro, Belize customs and immigration office after a full day of bus rides, taxi trips and the ferry from Chetumal. While doing our research on how to get to Caye Caulker from Mexico we learned that there was a small shop at this dock where we could buy beers. After such a long day of travelling there was nothing better than a couple of cold Belikans and this beautiful sunset.
The road to Wish Willy’s is a quiet one on the North-Western side of Caye Caulker. There is a cute playground (to the left) and a few other small hostels/hotels. We loved coming back to this view after a day of exploring.
The view from our deck at Wish Willy’s. It was so nice to step out of our rental and start each day with this view. These are the tables that guests at the restaurant would use. To the left, under the pink building was the bar where you can get your own drinks. Just make sure you keep track of your tab.
The view from Wish Willy’s private dock. We enjoyed dinner here and used this space for during Alyson & John’s first look and newlywed photos. Sunsets here are spectacular!
Just the two of us looking cute <3
Maggie’s Sunset Kitchen was the perfect place to grab our first real meal on Caye Caulker after arriving the previous day.
To the right is one of the seating areas at Maggie’s

Couldn’t pass up a photo opportunity like this
Jasmin looking beautiful after our meal.
When you visit Caye Caulker you need to try their Fry Jacks. There are many spots where you can buy them but this was our favorite. Errolyn’s House Of Fryjacks was delicious. It’s fried, it’s salty, it’s probably really unhealthy but DAMN is it ever delicious.
When we weren’t eating tasty food we spent our days walking and exploring the island. Having sand roads and everyone taking it slow was such a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Playa del Carmen.
During lobster season you can find lobster for sale EVERYWHERE and very reasonably priced.
Chef Juan’s was another great spot for food. We ate here a few times over our vacation.
Alyson & John were kind enough to tread everyone visiting for their wedding with a sunset boat cruise.
Most mornings we’d grab coffee from Ice N Beans Cafe. One of the few places open at 6am.
In the afternoons we’d hang out at Sip N Dip where they had happy hour specials on Rum Punch.
Jasmin & John looking cute
Jasmin buying coffee from I and I Reggae Bar. You can NEVER have too much coffee.
Best guy to buy “special brownies” from. This guy hustles and you can hear him from a mile away.
Jasmin always needs to say hello to any feline friends we find on our adventures.

These cute signs were all over the island.
Rum Coconut was the breakfast of champions after our first night and maybe a few too many drinks.

Caye Caulker is a beautiful island and we can’t wait to return.

Picture Perfect Cozumel

  • April 27, 2019

We absolutely LOVE the island of Cozumel and we’ve been so fortunate to have visited the island many times over the 5 years we’ve been living here and quite a few times most recently which has rekindled our love for the people, the places and especially the beaches of this cute island so close to our home.

Playa San Martin on the East coast of the Island

A group of our friends decided it would be a fun idea to travel over to the island, rent a convertible for the day and enjoy a few of the incredible spots both the city of San Miguel and the whole island of Cozumel have to offer.

The following blog post will be that adventure in photos.

Any early morning ferry to Cozumel requires a stop at Cafe Antoinette for an americano and a chocolatine. Unless unavailable we always rent our cars from ISIS car rentals in San Miguel. Don’t let the name fool you, they are super friendly and helpful. A day trip to Cozumel wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Burritos Gorditos. We discovered them our first year living in Mexico and they are still one of the best burrito joints we’ve ever visited.

With our belly’s full, the car rented and Megan’s reassurance that she remembers how to drive stick we hit the road to our first stop.

Our favorite snorkeling location on the west coast of the island is the Money Bar. It’s about 15 minutes from downtown San Miguel and you will not be disappointed. The water here is crystal clear and you can see a variety of sea life from fish, crustaceans, rays and more.

Before visiting the East side we decided to head back into San Miguel to stop at Bindiya, an incredibly authentic Indian restaurant. Friends who have visited India multiple times say this is the best they’ve had outside the country.

Our cute yellow convertible.

After more food and drinks with friends it was time to drive to the East side of Cozumel. We decided to take the scenic route driving south along the west coast and coming back up along the East coast stopping at a few incredible locations including El Mirador, Playa San Martin and Chumul lookout.

At this point we’re looking for any excuse to visit the island again for another incredible day.

Good morning!

It’s a beautiful day in Vernon, BC and even though the smoke from nearby forest fires is clouding our view a bit we’re both super excited for Tara & Justin’s wedding this afternoon.

Our Canadian road trip has been amazing so far and we only have a couple of weeks left before we head back to Playa del Carmen. We’ve been lucky enough to photograph couples and families in Edmonton, Calgary, Nanaimo, Vancouver and we’ve got more scheduled in Winnipeg when we arrive on the 17th.

You can follow our adventures on Instagram or Facebook with our #JMRT2017 tag.

Summer Recap – A Month in Winnipeg was the Perfect Amount of Time Back Home

  • October 8, 2015

It’s hard to believe that the summer has already come and gone, although the weather doesn’t help much when you live in a tropical paradise and “every day is summer”. Obviously, this statement isn’t quite the truth, as temperatures do still fluctuate even in warmer, South of Canada climates. The fluctuations are obviously not so extreme, and there’s still no need to have entirely different wardrobes for the changing seasons, no mittens and scarves and parkas either. But, there is still definitely cooler temperatures here in the winter months (December-March). This is unlike the summer heat that has us melting while trying to conserve our electric bill with minimal air conditioning usage, plus an inability to cool the office and kitchen space on the opposite side of the condo as the split air conditioning units are located in the two bedrooms, but I digress. At night, temperatures can still dip down to 16c with a high of only 26c at the peak of the day in January, which is fairly different than July & August where it’s more like a low of 28c at night and a high of 38c during the day. There’s still variation in those temperatures, my friends. Just not -40c winter extremes to feels like +40c with the humidex summer extremes. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, and have spent a total of 6 years of my life (at two very different times in my life) in Montreal. So, when I tell you I know nearly everything there is to know about extreme temperature variations in one set place, I truly mean it. *Please note: this blog post will be sprinkled with teaser photos from our August weddings (Svetlana & Dmytro at Azul Fives Resort and Jenna & Dennis in Kinosota, Manitoba) to help navigate your eyes away from text at times*

[justified_image_grid ids=4481,4465,4468]

This long-winded, silly rant-like one-sided conversation I just had is a conversation that came up several times throughout our month long living arrangements in Winnipeg, Manitoba this summer. We were fortunate enough to travel home to photograph a wedding in rural Manitoba, and since we have our belongings, and essentially still, our lives in Winnipeg, it seemed only fitting to jump on the opportunity to spend as much time visiting with friends and family as we possibly could. There were ups, there were downs, and overall, the month back home went by far faster than I thought it would, or even could for that matter. I really thought 4+ weeks would be long enough that time would actually have a chance to stand still for a bit. But no, it just went as fast as ever. What we anticipated to be infinite time spent with those near and dear to our hearts, wound up (as always) becoming mere hours penciled in on a handmade paper calendar of events for the month. This was truly the only way to properly track our whereabouts, hangouts, and the like. We could communicate via this vital piece of paper when we would be separate and thus discuss access to borrowed vehicles, where we had opportunities to double date or visit friends jointly, and making sure we wrote a list of people to contact and connect with, in hopes of trying to squeeze in as many familiar faces as humanly possible.

[justified_image_grid ids=4472,4473,4475,4474]

And it was exhausting. Rewarding too, but very exhausting. We had some much needed R+R time sporadically throughout the trip, with road trips to my family farm, Matt’s family’s cottage, and the rural wedding we were hired to shoot in the first place (making this whole trip entirely possible). Actually, the drive to and from Kinosota, Manitoba was spectacular. It’s easy to forget the simple pleasures in life sometimes, especially when you’re away from them for an extended period of time. Who knew I would miss driving a vehicle as much as I did? And who knew just how much we missed road trips with flat open prairie fields for kilometers, and those prairie sky clouds and endless horizon, and that unforgiving, relentless urge to be in the process of drinking a Tim Hortons coffee the entire road trip? We couldn’t have asked for a nicer and more exciting reward to photographing a stunning and beautiful Manitoba wedding than to have a month with friends we’ve missed dearly, family we’ve missed more, and common places and reinvented spaces that we had a chance to explore?

[justified_image_grid ids=4476,4477,4478,4479]

In a nutshell, we ate plenty of delicious food, engaged in lovely conversations with all of our favourite people in the world (and those we missed, we obviously regret!). We took some “me” time together, but separate, at Jellyfish Float Spa for a 90 minute relaxation float (our first time and boy was it fun for me!). I treated my parents to a night’s dining experience at Chew, which is certainly a delicious place to grab food. We had a few outings with my brother, Justin and his partner Christine, with everyone enjoying Ethiopian food for the first time at Massawa Restaurant. And more importantly, enjoying a true tapas evening out with the two of them at Enoteca, which had mushrooms that were on another level, and have certainly ruined mushrooms for me in everyday day-to-day living. We were treated to a Chinese food feast at North Garden Restaurant in the city’s South end of town.  We brunched over sandwiches at The Yellow Deli, owned and operated by Common Sense in St Boniface. We took ourselves to brunch on some of the best burritos either of us have ever consumed (seriously, every time, they are the best) at Burrito Del Rio in the heart of the city’s eccentric hangout known as Osborne Village. We treated ourselves to a fancy lunch at Fusion Grill, despite the unfortunate torrential downpour happening all over the city as we paid our bill and were ready to head out. We had a laid back breakfast with Matt’s parents at Perkins Family Restaurant, while I made a second visit there for coffee and breakfast with a previous Winnipeg Humane Society co-worker friend of mine, Judy. We were fortunate to make two stops in at Peasant Cookery twice while home, once for their infamous Buck-a-Shuck oyster night (seriously, $1 per oyster all night?!) as well as to try their entry for Le Burger Week taking place in cities across Canada the first week of September. There were others that we did not even get a chance to check out, as we were often too busy with plans for delicious dinners at other peoples’ places, or just out and about grabbing small things here and there.

[justified_image_grid ids=4488,4484,4482]

And that was our month long stay back home! Lots of visits and lots of food. And it was glorious. As always, it’s great to be getting back into a routine and normal life down South, but I’m already starting to feel my heart strings being twanged just a wee bit to come back again, and soon. In the meantime, it’s back to photo editing and updating the site, while organizing business-related things and the new place that we moved to back at the beginning of July. And now, for the last of our teaser photos, and keep your eyes out for these weddings, and others, going up on the site in the months to come!

Krista & Dennis’ Simply Elegant Wedding at Azul Sensatori Hotel

Love Is In The Air

  • February 15, 2015

It’s that time of year that 1/3 of the population love, 1/3 of the population despise, and the remaining 1/3 just ignores completely. That’s right, Valentine’s Day is here! Or was here, rather! It’s Valentine’s night now, and today has been a day filled with tender moments and many a shared laugh with my significant other. So here’s hoping our past clients and lovers, and future couples are all able to say they’ve been able to enjoy the same. And if not today, than yesterday, or perhaps tomorrow. The day truly is irrelevant, and it’s taking the time to express your love for one another and really relish in those moments that matter most. And now, on to our fabulous Saturday.

We had a chance to sleep in a bit, of course with cats disturbing that by wandering about on our pillows and meowing for breakfast in our faces. The day started with delicious coffee and a walk to the corner store for eggs and milk, reminiscing about our past, and having all sorts of lovely nostalgic moments. Talking about how we met, how long we’ve known each other, and how much we have grown together as a couple, as a working partnership, and with ourselves. The sun was out, the day was young, and we haphazardly decided to get it started right with a bike ride for some random groceries, and some clothing shopping. We let ourselves take detours, and an alternative route, because why not really? The day was gorgeous and we were in good spirits, with no need to rush for anything. Just enjoying the day for what it was. At home, we decided to clean house a bit, minor tasks like floor mopping and laundry, followed by more work on photos from the recent weddings we photographed end of January.

We made our first attempt ever at making our own egg salad for sandwiches, as it is a favourite of both of ours, but somehow we have not made it ourselves in the 6 years we’ve known each other. Madness! So, swap the mayo with some fresh avocado, mashed with perfectly boiled eggs, finely chopped onion & celery, a tablespoon of mustard and sprinkled with salt, pepper and paprika and voilà! Our delicious dinner for two for Valentine’s day! And, to follow that all up, we are going to watch a movie and pinch some gourmet perogies à la potato/cheese/pesto! Yum! So, with that, we will at least post a few of the teasers from the first wedding we photographed January 21st, with Krista & Dennis at Azul Sensatori in Puerto Morelos.

Ferry to Cozumel

Four Weeks Down, Countless to Go!

  • August 11, 2014

This may sound cliché but hot damn does time ever truly fly by when you’re having fun. It’s wild to look back over the past 4 weeks, at all the things we’ve accomplished, and all the times we’ve also just taken time to ourselves to relax, recuperate, and rest. Strange to think that only 4 weeks ago we were sitting at our table, each on our own laptops, waiting desperately for news from WestJet that perhaps they had found our lost luggage, that nothing was missing, that it was en route to us. Of course, that didn’t happen that Monday, and rather a few days later, and thus, we had to travel 8km into town by foot to buy much needed items like some new clothes, essentials like toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, toilet paper and all other mundane items, and of course, food to feed our bellies!

_DSC5687

Those days now seem like a distant past. Now we have our very own bicycles to ride to and from town with, single-speed, second hand beach cruisers, complete with some rusty kisses, splash guards, and front baskets. Acquiring bikes one week after our arrival was a godsend, opening up a world of purchase possibilities. It made traveling to our local OXXO (corner store/dépanneur/convenience store) to purchase 20L bottles of water that much easier (considering this is done an average of 4 times a week, carrying that was not fun for Matt).

_DSC5760
We’ve had meetings with our lawyer, met with an accountant, got acquainted with the friends we made through Skype who we will be working as independent contractors for, made a slew of brand new friends, some local, some expats, some retired, some worldly travellers. We typically bike either 16km a day, or 32km a day, pending if we travel in to Playa del Carmen once or twice. We still bike down to our beach at the end of our road, playa Xcalacocos, where we frolic in waves and try hard not to touch too much seaweed some days. There’s an adjustment period to familiarizing yourself with seaweed, and we have yet to reach it. That being said, our seaweed isn’t your usual slimy seaweed, but more so reminiscent of the green plastic fake items you add to fish tanks to liven it up a bit. We have also been spoiled by being invited over to a friend’s place a couple of times, where he and his girlfriend have an amazing loft apartment in downtown Playa del Carmen, and there’s a small rooftop infinity pool there too. Needless to say, a few light beers are enjoyed while relaxing in a pool which is less than 4 feet deep, with the cool breeze and the hot sun on our faces, great conversation with awesome new friends, great tunes in the background, and time just sort of stands still and could last forever in moments like those.

We have had a chance to travel to an Eco park nearby, Kantun-Chi, where we chose the day pass with access to 4 cenotes. It was a first experience for each of us, and we had a blast. Having agreed to wake at 6am, to optimize both our time spent there, but also, before many others decided to travel there too. We arrived at 9am, and had the park to ourselves for the first hour and it was glorious. The water was SO cold, and so refreshing, with only one being exposed to the air outside, and thus having any sort of green slimy moss growth on the rocks in the water. Everything else was shielded within open cave like nooks, and it was quite interesting to explore all four of them.
We made a day trip to the island of Cozumel for a day last Monday, completing our photos and fingerprints for our immigration cards, and subsequently deciding to make it a day excursion. We caught the 8am ferry, had a chance to walk around, looking for a breakfast option and winding up enjoying some of the best burritos we’ve been fortunate enough to eat in our lives at Burritos Gorditos.

DSCN5117 DSCN5115

Then it was off to the immigration office to deal with the business side of life, and once complete, more time for us to walk around, hide in a department store and buy umbrellas as we were suddenly caught in quite a bit of rain.

DSCN5121

Eventually, we were able to wander to a scooter rental, and ride the tour of the island. We stopped in two places, Paradise Beach and Playa Palancar, to go snorkeling. Paradise Beach seemed to have more fish, whereas when out far enough at Playa Palancar, we saw some conchs and a massive starfish at the bottom of the sea,

DSCN5127 DSCN5131

alongside fish, and when walking about, hundreds of tiny hermit crabs milling about. After the two stops to get wet, we opted to just cruise around, enjoying the scooter and the beauty the island had to offer, landing us to a restaurant we’d checked out a few years back, Coconuts Bar & Grill.

DSCN5137 DSCN5140

Enjoyed some chips with pico de gallo and guacamole, had some much needed beer refreshments, and hydrated with water. Eventually, making our way back in time to catch the 6pm ferry ride home, for dinner and much needed rest after such a long day.
And that was only a week ago.

Here we are, a few more meals and outings accomplished, two lovely dinners with friends we’ve met through meetup.com, with Chicago deep-dish style pizza at Don Chendo’s restaurant, and last night was a splendid affair at Zenzi’s beach restaurant, sharing some of the best nachos we’ve ever had, with the same MeetUp crew of friends, enjoying the Supermoon reflecting off the ocean’s mild night time waves, and being proud of ourselves for all we’ve accomplished in these past four weeks. Cheers to them! Cheers to us! We are excited about what the future, our future, here in Playa del Carmen, has in store for us.

Coming Soon: Paula & Scott

  • August 14, 2013

All geared up and ready to take some spectacular engagement photos with Paula and Scott in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The session will take place in a few days while the edits will be done as soon as I’ve returned to Montreal. Paula and Scott are a sweet couple, who’ve been friends for years, and it was only a matter of time before they began dating. It was only a matter of time before Scott jumped at a chance to put on a ring on that finger! Considering how unique they each are individually, and together as a pair, it should come as no surprise that the location for the engagement photos will also be special, different… “off-the-grid” if you will. It’s going to be a great shoot, and I can hardly wait!
